Accidently Clear your Cache while in game?

I did, and I couldn't figure out how to get the Donator Neckpiece to appear. I cleared my cache while in game, and as we know, that doesn't do any good. I tried restoring it from my Trash and deleting it again after I exited the game, but that doesn't work. Here's what you need to do to get the Cache folder back, and to get the neckpiece to work.

1. Go to your World of Warcraft folder, wherever it may be.

2. Look inside for a program called, "Repair". It has a wrench as it's icon. Double click that.

3. A box should pop up asking what you want to do: Reset and Check Files, or Check Files. To the left of these options you should see 3 check boxes asking for what should be reset. Uncheck "Reset World of Warcraft Third Party Custom Interfaces" and World of Warcraft configurations. Leave Reset World of Warcraft Cache Data checked.

4. Click Reset and Check files and wait for the repair kit to be done.

5. Once that is done, (It should take a decent while, around 15minutes maybe) log in to your World of Warcraft account and character, and exit the game completely.

6. Go back into your World of Warcraft folder and delete your Cache.

If followed correctly, you should now be able to log on and see the neckpiece that you donated for, and not "Sentinels Medallion" or what not.

Hope this helps.

Isn't it common sense that you run repair?

In how many different ways could you restrict the domain of f(x)=x²+3, so that the inverse is a function?

Wait.. what?

I tried that, actually. Sat down with Feral for a good half an hour.

My Cache was actually never recreated once it was moved to Recycle bin. Dunno if that's a windows flaw or not. >.> Since I use Vista.

Yeah, what Putra said. You didn't need to run the repair program; just log on and the folder reappears.

The Cache folder is basically memory of recent in-game events. The items you have, areas you've been to, etc, are stored in the cache for quicker access by the game. Instead of having to constantly get information from the server, the cache provides a way for the game to keep some information on your harddrive, to be able to access it much quicker than contacting the server every time.

Therefore, when things get updated on the server, and the information stored in your cache folder doesn't match up to the server information anymore, the cache folder needs to be deleted, so that the game knows to re-acquire new information from the server, thus updating your items to the new ones.

This goes along with the custom/donor items that WaMMo povides, since a lot of these items use the same itemIDs as other, unpopular items within the game. Once the cache is cleared, the game sort of updates itself with the server, thus turning your "Sentinels Medallion" or whatever into the new donor item.

Putra will correct me if I'm wrong about any of this...

that is more or less correct diab..

though just "logging in or out" won't fix the issue, as i can delete the cache, and go on putra and switch accounts to dannyboy without closing wow and the cache folder would still be gone if i cleared it after opening wow...

to restore cache, you need to completely exit the game and reenter it....if it doesn't create a cache folder, then something is wrong with your wow client as the clients are programmed to re-create missing cache folders with specific things such as the item references that diab mentions
