Basic Info about Mage

The basic stats thats a mage needs is Stamina, Intellect, Spell penetration and Spell Critical hit, Spell hit is good but not really needed since this is a PvP server.

About Mages

Mages are mana wielders that deal massive range damage. They have spells like Blink, which allows them to teleport forward and Polymorph, which turns enemies into helpless sheep. Mages also have a wide array of armor spells that do everything from raise resistances and armor to block out damage completely.

Stats

24,44 Spell Critical hit = 1% Crit chance
74,9 Intellect = 1% Crit chance
14,15 Spell hit = 1% Chance to hit
18 Haste = 1% Spell haste

Leveling

Leveling mages can be tricky because they cant heal and often have very low armor and health. However, the high amounts of damage mages deal make them able to successfully solo. Watch out for mobs that stun and deal huge amounts of damage in one blow and remember to use skills like Blink, Frost Nova, and Polymorph if you pull more then one mob or in PvP.

My 1 vs 1 Strategies as a Non-donor

Mage vs Warrior: This should be a very easy fight if you are specc'd into frost, if not its still easy, just have rank 1 Frostbolt on your bar. Counterspell him at the start so he cannot charge you (he will be put into combat). When he changes to Berserker Stance get ready to Blink because he is going to intercept. At this point just cast a rank 1 Frostbolt at him and proceed to kite him around and use combos like Nova+Frostbolt+Ice Lance (if you are frost) to burn him down. Be ready to trinket or Ice Block out of Hamstring if he gets it on you, he will do loads of damage to you if you dont remove it quickly.

Mage vs Warlock: This is one of the hardest fights for a mage. You will need to play perfectly to beat a good warlock. Before the fight starts throw up Mana Shield/Ice Barrier even though they may be eaten by the pet(Mostly not). If he is destruction Counterspell the first Shadow bolt or Incinerate spell you see. Burst him down as quickly as you can. When you see him cast fear try to Blink behind him or Counterspell.
If not then try to use Trinket, if its CD use Ice Block, (if you Ice Block you'll remove all the dots too), If you are undead it will be helpful, as you have Will of the Forsaken.
Even the best mages will loose to a good warlock most of the time, but if you play your cards right you should be able to keep it 50/50.
Remember to keep dispelling the Curse everytime the warlock Curse you.

Mage vs Shaman: Against a shaman always remember that almost all of their spells are nature. So if you Counterspell a heal or a lightning bolt it will lock them out of almost everything for 8 seconds. Be aware of when they pop grounding totems and shoot a ice lance at it. If he is enhancement make sure you stay away. All it takes is one good wind fury crit and you are almost dead. Against a resto shaman all you have to do is time a one good counterspell on his heal and nuke. Against elemental shamans do all you can to keep him from casting on you. This includes counterspell, blinking behind him, and ice blocking. Dont bother casting ice barrier/mana shield except at the start because it will just be purged. Shamans aren't usually difficult but if you aren't careful they can be nasty opponents.

Mage vs Mage: This fight is all about skills, you really HAVE TO remember to use Frost/Fire Ward/Ice Barrier/Mana shield, Ice block kinda soon if ur Frost because you got Cold snap and you can Re-Ice block in 30 seconds.
Be smart, if his Fire CS on a Fire spell, If his Frost CS on a Frost spell, Simple.
And 1 more thing when you see he got like 1 seconds left on his cast, blink behide him and this will make you out of sight and his spell with not go off and be casted.

Mage vs Paladin: If the paladin is anything except retribution this will be a very easy fight. If he is ret you will still win, you just have to be more careful. They always open with a stun, just Blink out of it and proceed to nuke them. After that they run around hitting you for minimal damage and healing constantly. The tricky part is knowing when to go in for the kill. MY rule is that if they are at, or below 35% health, to Counterspell his heal and finish him. If they are above that then there is a good chance the CS will run out before he is dead and he will heal to full, prolonging the battle another 24 seconds until CS is back up. If he heals at above 35% health, let him just continue to cast Frostbolt/Fireball on him constantly as he heals. If he bubbles, run away for the duration. If you run out of mana sheep him and use Evocation because his HP Regan is not a problem.

Mage vs Priest:Priests are the Anti-Mage It is extremely hard to beat a priest 1v1. Against shadow priests make sure to Ice Block out of their dots, if you leave Vampiric Embrace on for long the priest will be healing himself for alot while still damaging you. I usually Counterspell a shadow spell and hope that they arent't quick enough to change forms and heal before I can kill them. Even holy priests are difficult. Against a holy priest spellsteal all of his buffs as soon as you can so that later on when he uses bubble/renew/prayer of mending you can take it for yourself. To win, you have to get a good Counterspell off on one of his heals and burst him down before he can heal again.
(Problobly the hardest class for a mage to 1v1)

Mage vs Rogue: A frost mage should be able to beat a rogue 75% of the time. A fire mage will be lucky to win 50%. Most rouges open with cheap shot because they are dumb. If they do then simply Blink away and start fighting as you always would. If they open with garrote it will silence you for quite some time and apply a nasty dot. You will need to Ice Block as soon as they garrote you to remove the dot and silence (if your fire just run and hope for the best while you'r silenced). After that kite them as well as you can while doing as much damage as you can. MAKE SURE THEY STAY IN COMBAT. If they get out of combat they will re-stealth and your out of luck. If they do re-stealth or vanish or because you let them get out of combat use rank 1 Blizzard over the area where they stealthed and try to catch them before they get to you. If your a 3 minute mage use your cooldowns or you probably wont win. If you are frost, the elemental will help you a lot. Keep your shield up all the time. When they use Cloak of Shadows, blink away and start wanding so they cant leave combat, then its just go back and try kite them and win.

Mage vs Druid: Druids can be very hard if they know what they are doing. If they are feral do exactly what you did vs. a rogue except be ready to Counterspell them when they heal. Remember that you cant sheep a druid and he can shape shift out of slowing effects. Resto druids are a pain. Your best chance is to spellsteal their HoT's but not Lifebloom because when you steal it they get the Finish heal, and hope that you can burn them down before you run out of mana. They probably wont kill you but it will be very hard for you to kill them too. It is pretty pointless to duel a resto druid so I would avoid them most of the time. Balance druids are easy all you have to do is Counterspell one spell and they are locked out of nearly all of their spells for 8 seconds. If they are Moonfire spammers then keep your shield up and burn them down quickly.

Mage vs Hunter: This is a very easy fight because as you know every hunter on WaMMO is MM so all you have to do it being careful and try to being near him all the time so he cant Shoot you because his Range dmg is alot because you dont got alot of armor, and just Ice block out of his Silence Shot.
But if his BM and your Frost this will be a problem because his immune to Frost Nova etc for 18 Seconds, so all you have to do is wish his bad or you problobly going to lose.

Enchants, gems

As a non donor and your using full s4 you know you dont get many Gems only about 8 or something, In my opinion you should stack the Solid Empyrean Sapphire(15 Stamina Sockets) Solid Empyrean Sapphire - Item - World of Warcraft because if you get the 12 Spelldmg you not get so much spelldmg more only about 100 and as a Meta Socket you should be using Mystical Skyfire Diamond Mystical Skyfire Diamond - Item - World of Warcraft

Head Enchant: Glyph of Power, Glyph of Power - Item - World of Warcraft
Shoulder Enchant: Power of the Scourge, Power of the Scourge - Item - World of Warcraft
Leg Enchant: Runic Spellthread, Runic Spellthread - Item - World of Warcraft

Chest: 6 All Stats
Cloak: 20 Spell penetration
Wrist:15 Spell damage
Gloves:20 Spell damage
Boots:9 Stamina and Minor speed(Boar speed)
Ring(s):12 Spell damage
Weapon: 40 Spell damage/Sunfire/Soulfrost

Very good guide.
During mage vs. mage fights (duels) there is 2 main routes you can go...

firstly- spam counterspell a the start of the duel, then sheep and nuke them down.
secondly- spam fireblast and cone of cold, if they dont counterspell at the start you've got them down about 2-3k already, then when they sheep you (which they have probs been trying to cast while you attack them) you can use your trinket as they cast their most powerful spell (fireball or frostbolt depending on spec) counter spell this and you have 8 seconds of nuke time ;)

As frost maybe but not as fire, (asuming the mage is non-donor) its still possible for the fire mage to nuke the crap out of you and then CS when ur low, im gonna say they bubble the CS just run and eat/evocate to get that mana back and start over.



NOW if the mage is donor its a much easier time because we keep you under sooo much pressure with the scorches ull be to 50% before u realise it, once you hit 50% my specc ill Pom PYRO you for about 5k (since you have no resilience) then you will probably be at like say 20% from there CS/nuke u down not to mention the stuns of Dragon's Breath and impact proccs as well as a few "AMAGAD WTF HAPPEND" trinkets in the fight.
