Disciple advice?

Hey, I'm currently speced discipline but I've never really played a priest on retail, so they're kind of new to me.

I was wondering how I should gear/gem/chant

I know it's mainly about healing, but I've seen some good ones on retail that use smite and dots and mana burn a lot too. Would anyone be kind to share some insight as a spec, reason for it, how to play, and gear out? Thanks!

my priest is holy/disc and i just use +10 spirit gems since it also gives healing and ontop of that you regen mana like a mofo

Basically the point of a Disc priest is to out-last the other guy. Disc priests can be retardedly hard to take down, so you play using that to your advantage. Mana-burn other casters, out-heal melee while you let your DoTs do the work etc.

So I should basically wear healing gear with a ridiculous amount of spirit where my mana never goes low? Cause I have that gear already. Just should I stack some spell damage for my dots and mana burn or anything?

Discipline. So bascially both. Mostly healing, but the occasional damage output here and there.

Disc. is basically all about survivability AND healing. A DIsc priest with 450+ resil can be VERY difficult to take down. Not only that but Disc. priest can take tons of beating by using Pain Supression.

my friend's Disc. priest had like 477 resil. and i BARELY managed to crit him on my rogue (32# crit chance) hell, he tested out his resil with a destro warlock and even that warlock couldn't barely get a crit on him (he was even sitting down)
